Why factories commission UKAS accredited slip testing

General manufacturing facilities combine power-floated concrete, resin-coated production floors, painted walkways and outdoor yards — each with different contamination exposure and different slip risk. UKAS accredited testing gives the operator a facility-wide risk picture suitable for HSE compliance, insurer submission, and internal safety committee reporting.

Specific issues we see in factories

• Production line surrounds. Cutting fluids, lubricants, process water — all concentrate around working machinery. Testing with representative contamination gives operational risk data.
• General shop floor concrete. Power-floated substrate, often painted walkways, occasionally polished. Testing priorities depend on the specific operation.
• External yards and gantries. Yard surfaces, loading areas, gantry steps — weather exposed. Different contamination profile from inside.

Common questions

Can you test around running production?

We test during planned stoppages or maintenance windows. Running production is not usually accessible for testing.

What about paint or resin spec for a new line?

Pre-commissioning acceptance testing against the floor spec is standard. Worth doing before the line goes live.

Does the report help with HSE?

Yes. UKAS accredited reports are accepted by HSE as primary slip-resistance evidence during compliance inspections and post-incident investigations.

We have multiple facilities — how do you scope?

Typically a baseline survey at each facility covering representative areas, then a ranked remediation report. Larger groups sometimes scope annual re-audit.
